Hunter College Receives $25 Million Donation

News | August 27, 2013

New York power couple, Leon and Toby Cooperman, have donated $25 million to Hunter College to be split between a scholarship program and the college’s library.

Leon currently serves as the chairman and chief executive of New York hedge fund, Omega Advisors, and Toby recently retired from a career as a special-education specialist at the Early Childhood Learning Center in Chatham, N.J.

The pair, who both graduated in 1964, told The Wall Street Journal that their gift to Hunter is partly to celebrate their upcoming 50th wedding anniversary and their 50th Hunter reunion. “If you asked me when we got married did I see this in my future, I would have to say no,” Toby revealed. “Although, my mother called him a wheeler-dealer.”
