Haute 100 NY Update: Chelsea Clinton Wants To Lead ‘A Purposely Public Life’

News | August 6, 2013

After years of trying to live a low key life in NYC, Chelsea Clinton says that she’s making a conscious effort to take on more of a public role.

The 33-year-old daughter of former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton recently traveled to Africa with her father and the Clinton Foundation. “I really felt like I could make a difference and then I should make a difference,” she told CNN. “And I had very much led a deliberately private life for a long time, and now I’m attempting to lead a purposely public life.”

And it seems that life could involved following in her parents’ footsteps and running for political office.

“I’m also grateful to live in a city, and a state and country where really I believe in my elected officials,” she explained. “And if someday either of those weren’t true, and I thought I could make more of a difference in the public sector, or if I didn’t like how my city or my state or my country were being run, then I’d have to ask and answer that question.”
