Ariana Rockefeller To Unveil Fashion Line this Summer

When Ariana Rockefeller‘s new fashion line hits stores this summer, some of the prints may look familiar to those in the art world. The 31-year-old designer recently revealed that she looked to classic painters when designing the color palette and patterns in her Fall 2013 collection.

“You don’t always need to play it safe with color,” she told Gotham Magazine, while describing how the chevron print in Picassos Femme et Chien Sous un Arbre inspired her short-and full-length crepe de chine caftans.

Rockefeller collaborated with design director Rob Younkers, a professor at Parsons The New School for Design, for the upcoming line. Featuring resort style pieces such as caftans, palazzo pants, and mini-dresses, the collection pays homage to Rockefeller’s family.

Many of the pieces are named after important people in her life, such as “Margaret” (her grandmother) and Colombier, a beach on St. Barth’s, where the family had a home. “Every name has a meaning and a connection to me,” she explained.
