High-End Aspen Properties on the Move in 2012

News | January 7, 2013

Transactions over $10 million accounted for 14 percent of the single-family home sales in Piktin County in 2012, according to the Aspen Business Journal, with the highest at $49 million. That purchase went to hedge fund manager John Paulson, who bought the 130-acre two-parcel property and 56,000-square foot Star Ranch from Saudi billionaire Prince Bandar bin Sultan. Originally listed in 2007, Bandar’s entire Hala Ranch was listed for $135 million, at the time making it the most expensive property for sale in the country.

According to the same article, interior designer Charlotte Moss and her husband Barry Freidberg, a Merrill Lynch executive, sold their Red Mountain mansion for $17.25 million to New York financier Robert Rosenkranz. Freidberg and Moss bought the home from private equity investor Ted Forstmann in 2006 for $16.25 million.

Interior designer Kristeen Church also sold her 15,000-square foot home near Aspen Highlands for $21 million to TVPX 1031 Exchange Co. founder and president Tobias Kleitman. It was built in 2008 and originally listed for $29.5 million in 2009.

All told, 18 residential properties sold for more than $10 million in 2012, compared to 22 over $10 million in 2011. For the top 10 transactions and full article, visit here.
