Last-Minute Commercial Sales Boost Year-End Total
The sale of several commercial buildings in downtown Aspen at the end of 2012 helped to make it the most profitable year since 2007, the Aspen Times reported. Ellie’s Building, at 101 S. Mill St., sold for $12 million and Amelia’s Building, at 407 E. Hyman St., sold for $3.2 million on Dec. 31. Just two days prior, the Mountain Plaza building sold for $22 million and the Volk Plaza building sold for $17.25 million.
More than $1.46 billion was recorded in Pitkin County real estate sales in 2012. It’s the most since 2007, when that figure topped out at $2.52 billion.
There are plans to redevelop the Mountain Plaza lot, which houses Kemo Sabe, Ryno’s Pies and Pints, Keating Fine Art and Le Tub. In regard to the other three sales, there are either no plans to develop or the buyers are still unsure.
