Pop-Up Champagne Bar Gives Aspen Skiers a Reason to Toast

News | December 12, 2012

For skiers that like some bubbly with their bumps, they’ll be happy to know that the pop-up Champagne bar on Aspen Mountain will return this year. Last season, the Veuve Clicquot-serving bar sprouted up around Ajax on weekends, offering guests a mid-mountain refreshment before continuing on their sun-drenched, and buzzed, way. On Tuesday, Pitkin County Commissioners approved allowing Aspen Skiing Co. to continue with the Champagne bar this season, the Aspen Daily News reported.

Managed by The Little Nell, Aspen Skiing Co.’s five-star property at the base of Aspen Mountain, the pop-up bar serves only Veuve Clicquot. Commissioners were waiting to see if popping bottles caused any on-mountain problems last season, and SkiCo officials were happy to report that it served as more of a fun stop than a place to skiers or snowboarders to hunker down and party. They don’t plan to open the bar until February, when warmer temperatures prevail. Until then, bubbly at the base will have to do.
