Welcome to Aspen, Winter!

News | December 10, 2012

In a ski town, life during the winter revolves around skiing. Sure, art openings and dinner reservations near the top of the list, but when 3,267 feet of vertical rises from the center of town, it’s guaranteed that the slopes take No. 1 priority in people’s minds. This weekend, winter descended upon Aspen/Snowmass with 15 inches of fresh snow on Saturday night, and more on the way through Tuesday.

On Aspen Mountain riders were greeted with top-to-bottom riding accessed from the Silver Queen Gondola. In Snowmass, snow crews worked hard to double the open terrain to more than 340 acres. The storm totals in Aspen were the highest in the state, and single-digit temperatures on Monday will allow the base to settle. Officials are assessing the opening dates for Buttermilk and Aspen Highlands, two more mountains in the four-mountain network that makes up Aspen/Snowmass.
