Preview of the Home of the Palm Springs Architecture and Design Center
Just in time for Modernism Week in February, the Architecture and Design Council have decided to house their Mad Men-themed fundraiser at a midcentury modern bank known as the old Santa Fe Federal Savings and Loan building. Once the legendary space becomes the Palm Springs Art Museum Architecture and Design Center, Edwards Harris Pavilion, it will be the home of many design, architecture and photography exhibitions.
In order to restore this 1961 property, LA-based Marmol Radziner will be in charge of the project, which will include adding new lighting, shade control, accommodating the building up to Americans With Disabilities Act regulations and replacing quite a few anodized aluminum screens that over the years had been stolen. Radziner also will be adding basement offices, meeting space, a store and kitchen, all partially in the vault on the main floor. On March 1, the work is set to start on the Palm Springs Art Museum Architecture and Design Center, with many anxious to see the final result.
