Aspen Film Announces Academy Screenings Lineup
The race to the Oscars is full of laughter, tears and awkward moments, and film-lovers can get a sneak peek of it all during the 21st Academy Screenings hosted by Aspen Film. The nonprofit announced its full lineup of award contenders on Monday, scheduled to run Dec. 25 through Jan. 1 at the Wheeler Opera House.
Audiences will have the chance to see just-released films such as Kathyrn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty, the account of the manhunt for Bin Laden, starring Jessica Chastain, Chris Pratt and Joel Edgerton; Not Fade Away, a coming-of-age tale with Jack Huston, Bella Heathcote and James Gandolfini; and Gus Van Sant’s gas-drilling drama Promised Land, starring Matt Damon and Frances McDormand.
The late-release list for 2012 also includes Quartet, starring Maggie Smith, Michael Gambon and Billy Connolly; Roger Michell’s Hyde Park on Hudson, featuring Bill Murray and Laura Linney; Michael Haneke’s Cannes Festival prize-winner Amour,starring Jean-Louis Trintignant and Emmanuelle Riva; Sally Potter’s British drama Ginger & Rosa, with Elle Fanning, Annette Bening, Timothy Spall and Oliver Platt; and Walter Salles’ adaptation of the Jack Kerouac classic, On the Road, starring Kristen Stewart, Steve Buscemi, Amy Adams, and Viggo Mortensen.
For movies that audiences may have missed this fall, Aspen Film will also screen Ben Affleck’s Argo; historical drama Lincoln; French film on friendship The Intouchables; The Master starring Philip Seymour-Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix; rom-com Silver Linings Playbook; period piece Anna Karenina; Jacques Audiard’s Rust & Bone; Ben Auster’s The Sessions; and Nikolaj Arcel’s A Royal Affair.
