Prism by Keiichi Matsuda Opens at London Design Week

Friday, September 14 marks the beginning of one of the most important events on the international design calendar; The London Design Festival. And while there will be many events, exhibitions and madcap parties all over the city, one of the installations getting the most buzz is from London-based designer, digital artist and filmmaker Keiichi Matsuda’s Prism. Commissioned by Veuve Clicquot, Matsuda’s prism will live in the Victoria & Albert museum’s Ceramics galleries (where else?). The massive glowing installation is likened to a brightly-colored lantern and is best taken in from the nearby staircases, which have never previously been open to the public.
By using a combination of video, design and architecture, Matsuda encourages us to look at the data that controls our daily lives. It’s a porthole into the virtual world explored in a very tangible way. The artist investigates this side of London through many different data feeds including transport updates, traffic webcams and environmental data. Your average exhibit this is not.
Entry is free, but you must book tickets.
