Los Angeles’ Ford Amphitheater Renovations to Begin in October

Los Angeles’ Ford Amphitheater will close in October for upgrades, following the company’s current summer programming for the Ford 2012-13 season.

A $7.5 million project will include bringing in new seats for the 1,200-seat venue, repairing the Amphitheater stage floor and construction that will allow for better water drainage. Lighting and sound systems will also be upgraded. The Amphitheater will close in October 2012 and reopen in May 2013, preventing the organization from offering its winter programming.

According to Ford Theaters managing director Adam Davis, “We have wanted to make these improvements for some time. We are currently going through a planning process that’s enabled us to prioritize needs and these were at the top of the list. These improvements will make producing at the Ford better and maintaining the facility easier while retaining the Amphitheater’s historic character.”

Built in 1920, the Amphitheater was once rebuilt in 1931 following a fire that destroyed the original construction.

The renovation project is funded with capital projects funds from Board of Supervisors Chairman and Third District Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky.
