UK Street Artist Banksy’s ‘Grannies’ Sold to Top Chef Alum

A local Los Angeles chef, who also happens to be a Top Chef alum, just purchased one of UK street artist Banksy’s 2006 works entitled “Grannies” at auction the “Expo Auction” held at Bergamot Station.

During the auction, Top Chef alum Stefan Richter, was the highest bidder on Banksy’s “Grannies”. Richter said on his Facebook account, “My first ever Banksky I purchased, I’m so happy!” He also noted that owning a Banksy has been a longtime goal and added, “I got an awesome deal.”

“Grannies” was valued pre-auction between $2,000 and $3,000.

Stefan Richter, of Stefan’s in Los Angeles, is a Finnish-America chef residing in Santa Monica, California. He was the runner-up during Bravo’s Top Chef’s fifth season. Richter lost to Hosea Rosenberg, despite winning four elimination challenges and four quickfires. He also appeared as a guest judge on the Finnish version of Top Chef.
