Luxury Attaché: Fired-Up Fitness

News | April 27, 2012

Warmer weather means that bikinis and board shorts are just around the corner, so it’s time to get serious about your fitness. Get a killer workout while having fun at one of the great studios below.

Pilates ProWorks
47 West 14th Street, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues

Lengthen, strengthen and tighten at the newly opened Pilates ProWorks, a 4,500-square-foot studio with more than 100 group classes and private Pilates sessions. Their signature class is the Pilates Pro Method, a 55-minute session that combines resistance, strength training and cardio on the Fitformer, a machine developed exclusively by the studio. They also offer the Barre program and TRX Pro.

Chaise23
40 East 23rd Street, between Park and Madison Avenues

Chaise23 strives to alter clients’ minds and bodies through founder Lauren Piskin’s “Reinvention Method.” The method uses chair-like platforms with spring-loaded pedals and bungee cords hung from the ceiling to create lean, toned and defined muscles. The 55-minute classes are high-energy, revolutionary and challenging workouts. The newly renovated group fitness studio opened to the public mid-March.

Barry’s Bootcamp
135 West 20th Street, between Sixth and Seventh Avenues

LA-export Barry’s Bootcamp delivers a boot-camp experience in a nightclub atmosphere: the lights dim, the music blasts and the crowd goes wild. Each 60-minute class combines cardio and strength training, with participants divided into two groups going back and forth between interval running on treadmills and floor work using dumbbells, bands and medicine balls. The drill sergeant – or, instructor – keeps the group on pace and in motion while motivating to push harder and run faster. This class is not for the faint at heart.
