Dior Names Raf Simons As New Artistic Director After John Galliano

News | April 9, 2012

After a year of rumors and speculation, Dior has confirmed that the former creative director of Jil Sander, Raf Simons, has been named the famed design house’s new artistic director of women’s wear and accessories.

Just over a year ago, Dior’s legendary creative director John Galliano was fired following a widely-publicized anti-Semitic outburst.

Murmurings that Simons was in consideration as Galliano’s successor began as early as December although fashion heavy-weights names such as Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci and Louis Vuitton’s Marc Jacobs were also being thrown around.

Simons’ first show with Dior will be the women’s couture show in July.
