Tarkovsky Film Festival In Plyos

The 6th Tarkovsky Film Festival will take place in Plyos, Ivanovo on May 29 through June 3. Named after director Andrei Tarkovsky, the festival marks 40 years since Tarkovsky was awarded the Palme d’Or for Solaris.
Plyos is a small town located in Ivanovo district that will host to the 6th international Tarkovsky Film Festival. From May 29 through June 3 the festival will be held, marking 80 years since Tarkovsky’s birthday, 50 years since the release of his first film, Ivan’s Childhood, and 40 years since he was awarded the Palme d’Or for Solaris.
Tarkovsky was a Soviet and Russian filmmaker, writer, film editor, film theorist, theater and opera director and widely regarded as one of the finest filmmakers of the 20th century. He directed the first five of his seven feature films in the Soviet Union and his last two films were produced in Italy and Sweden. His films included Andrei Rublev, Solaris, The Mirror and Stalker.
The filmmaker’s movies are often characterized by metaphysical themes, extremely long takes and memorable images of beauty. Recurring motifs include dreams, memory, childhood, running water accompanied by fire, rain indoors, reflections, levitation and characters reappearing in the foreground of long panning movements of the camera.
There were three films made about Tarkovsky, including Ebbo Demant, One Day in the Life of Andrei Arsenevich and Voyage in Time.
