$1.1 Million for Muhammad Ali Boxing Gloves and Poster of Boxing Match
This past Saturday, Muhammad Ali was honored for his 70th birthday at the Keep Memory Alive “Power of Love Gala.” The event was a star-studded affair which including over 200 celebs and athletes, that showed support by helping to raise more than $11 million within six hours.
The highlight of the night was the bidding war that took place for the infamous gloves Ali wore in 1965 during his heavyweight match against Floyd Patterson, along with a memorabilia poster from that classic fight. A battle which included UFC exec Lorenzo Fertitta and Station Casinos, but the highest bidder for the pieces was Fertitta at a hefty price of $1.1 million.
Indeed, a hefty sum, but all for a good cause, with a minimum of $1,500 per-plate for a seat. All proceeds went to the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville, Ky, the legendary boxer’s hometown and the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in Las Vegas.
