Legendary Designer Adolfo Dominguez Shows at Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2010

News | February 22, 2010

He counts Gwyneth Paltrow among his many cult followers, (she calls his designs “delightful,”) and as his Fall/Winter 2010 collection proves, Spanish designer Adolfo Dominguez has a knack for tapping into the universal zeitgeist by showing minimalist, effortless elegance and luxury to the hautest degree. His collection was at once a nod to the turbulence of our current time as well as a proclamation of optimism at the (hopefully more extravagant) times to come.

This intellectual and sophisticated approach to design, as well as Dominguez’s innate sense of the contours of the human form, comes from his philosophy, cinematography, and design studies in Paris and London. After launching his eponymous label in 1973, Dominguez found widespread recognition outfitting the stars of Miami Vice, arguably the most fashion-defining show of the 80s, and the rocket that launched his outer-worldly career. Born in northern Spain in 1950, he became the first Spanish designer to open his own brand name store in Madrid, which soon expanded across Spain and abroad. The rest, as they say, is history. One of his mottos may be “La arruga es bella”– wrinkles are beautiful– but this designers creations are as fresh-faced, timeless, and classically beautiful as ever.
