Haute Style: Oscar Worthy

News | February 19, 2010

Once again, Oscar de la Renta has dreamed up a stunning RTW Fall 2010 collection of exquisite luxury. While other designers remained refined and worked within the boundary of a muted palette, Oscar went for vivid and brilliant shades, as well as luxe fabric and fur (astrakhan, fisher, fox and chinchilla), much like Carolina Herrera used in her collection, which unveiled a few days before. It was unapologetic in its opulence which made the clothes feel that much more inspirational and dramatic. The day skirts and coats were cut at a “new” length below the knee, some paired as part of structured suits, and then there was the red-carpet-ready evening wear topped with fur stoles, seemingly reminiscent of a decadent and romantic time past. To quote Vogue Editor-at-large Hamish Bowles, “I love the 1920s day going into 1950s evening. It was a dazzling history of 20th century fashion…it felt joyous and optimistic.” It did indeed, as even Oscar himself stated: “We need to look back, to look forward.” The result is a collection you will be sure to covet and we expect to see a plethora of his gowns photographed at events this fall.
