Peninsula Hong Kong Prepares for Renovations

Over the next year, Peninsula Hotels has numerous renovation and upgrade projects planned for its properties, including its Hong Kong location, which will go through a two-phase renovation.
Previously updated in the mid-1990s, the Peninsula Hong Kong will have its guest rooms refurbished, transforming the 297 rooms starting with the Peninsula Tower, which is set to re-open in August 2012. The guest rooms located in the original building will subsequently be redesigned and they are scheduled to re-open in early 2013.
Albert Herrera, vice president of hotels, destinations and tours at Virtuoso (but has no direct affiliation with Peninsula Hotels) commented on the renovations as a third party expert and said, “Hong Kong is the flagship hotel and I believe they just turned 80, so it’s a big birthday for them. In a market like Hong Kong and China as we whole, where there are new developments and new products, they buy keeps getting higher.”
Hospitality design agency, Getty, worked with Peninsula Hotel to create the new guestroom layout and design. The new rooms will feature a “bespoke luxury residential feel with an accent on classic modernity, simplicity and chic elegance.” In addition, there will be revolutionary technology incorporated into the redesign, centered around guest personalization, according to The Peninsula.
“The Peninsula has always been a leader in the technology arena for hotels,” Virtuoso’s Mr. Herrera said. “But what they are doing now is bringing it to a whole different level – it’s not just for the flash but it’s also for a really seamless guest experience,” said Herrera.
The Peninsula Hong Kong was created in 1928 and is the city-state’s oldest hotel.
