Palm Beach Chefs Teach Cooking Class to Benefit Community Programs

St. Edward parish was transformed into a fundraising dinner last week as Monsignor Thomas J. Klinzing hosted thirty guests who were there for cooking courses from some of Palm Beach’s best executive chefs and restaurant owners.

For $500 apiece, the 30 lucky guests watched Jean-Pierre Leverrier and his son Guillaume of Chez Jean-Pierre, Gianni Minervini and Juan Rivera of Trevini, Peter Pietanza from Stressa and Fabrizio Giorgi of Café Sapori dazzle in parish’s rectory. The event sold out weeks in advance.

Starting at 5 p.m., food and equipment were set up while each chef organized his working space. While the guests sipped cocktails and munched on hors d’oeuvres, Pietanza baked focaccia, one with fresh herbs and one with cherry tomatoes and Giorgio made apple strudels. Leverrier made scrambled eggs topped with black caviar and Minervini and Rivera prepared a seafood salad with diced celery, cherry tomatoes, mussels, clams, octopus, shrimp and calamari. Pietanza cooked up a veal scaloppini with sliced mushrooms and Gorgonzola Dolce while Giorgi prepared cavatelli with ricotta mixed with pesto, olive oil, pine nuts, fresh basil and parsley.

All funds raised at the event went to support local community programs that feed the needy. According to the Palm Beach Daily News, this program helps approximately 800 men, women and children every week. For instance, The Caring Kitchen in Delray Beach receives around 400 hot meals and 200 cold meals each week to serve to homeless families while the Westgate Tabernacle Church receives around 250 meals a week.
