Gucci Group to Continue with Alexander McQueen
It seems the show will go on, as it was announced yesterday that the Alexander McQueen label would in fact continue, despite the death of the 40-year-old designer last week. Robert Polet, chief of the Gucci Group, which bought a 51 percent stake in McQueen in 2000, said the collection that McQueen was working on before his death will be shown at Paris fashion week. He also indicated that there are plans to continue to finance the brand, though he did not release specific plans for the future beyond the fall collection.
“Lee (McQueen) is of course irreplaceable,” Polet said, but “We believe in the future of the brand.”
In related news, The British Fashion Council has mounted a tribute wall in London to the late designer where visitors will be able to leave notes to McQueen and his family. The wall is set up in the main tent at the Somerset House and will be entitled “Lee Alexander McQueen.”
