LA’s Sushi Nozawa to Close February 29

Sushi Nozawa will be shutting its doors on February 29, but don’t fret because Nozawa’s Sugarfish restaurants are still around and providing a stylish, yet less-expensive version of the original.
Known by some for its less-than-friendly customer service, Sushi Nozawa will soon stop treating diners to their delicious sushi. Making a name for himself by garnering a reputation as a “sushi tyrant,” Nozawa is all about the fish. He doesn’t serve the traditional California rolls or spicy tuna, but rather warm rice and lightly sauced fish, tuna nuta and miniature crab rolls. Sushi Nozawa features a “Special of the Day” sign that simply reads, “Trust Me”.
With the news of Sushi Nozawa closing, attention is turning toward Nozawa’s other dining venture, Sugarfish. Currently located in Brentwood, Downtown, Marina del Rey and Santa Monica, Sugarfish locations serve traditional sushi “of the highest quality in a casual setting with no pretense.” Shunning extravagant rolls and fusion dishes, Nozawa concentrates on the purity of his basic ingredients and even makes his own fresh soy sauce and ponzu. Menu options here include three core selections called “Trust Me’s” – and everything is made back in the kitchen because the restaurant says, “we can set up for maximum efficiency (and not for show).
