Haute 100 Update: Barry Diller and Diane von Furstenberg Donate $20M to the High Line in NYC

News | November 5, 2011

NYC power couple Diane von Furstenberg and Barry Diller made a $20 million donation to the High Line, setting a record for the largest private contribution to a New York City public park in the city’s history.

The generous donation will support the fundraising efforts for the park to get the High Line’s undeveloped portion at the West Side Rail Yards finally transformed into a park and to help build an endowment for the park’s long-term maintenance and operations.

Back in 2005 when the High Line effort was still taking off, the benevolent couple catalyzed the construction of the the park’s first section. They then again donated during the 2008-09 financial crisis, and again now to help secure the final section of the historic High Line.

In total, the couple has donated $35 million towards preserving and transforming the iconic area, allowing it to become a gorgeous public park for New Yorkers to enjoy for generations.
