Timberrrr! Lady Crashes Into Picasso Painting
A rare Picasso housed at New York‘s Metropolitan Museum of Art suffered a six-inch tear when a clumsy art lover fell on it during an art class.
The museum says the damage did not affect the “focal point” in the century-old masterpiece called “The Actor” and a repair is possible. The museum has about 250 works by Picasso in its collection.
The 6ft by 4ft canvas, which Picasso painted during the winter of 1904-05, depicts an acrobat posed against an abstract backdrop. It was donated to the Met in 1952 and hung in a second-floor gallery without any problems…until Friday. It is expected to be repaired in time to go on display in an exhibit with the other Picasso works April 27.
