When traveling far from home, most people book reservations at restaurants or spas in advance and adhere to strict itineraries. While a smart way to go, I have found that sometimes the best way to travel through a city is by getting lost in it. In Paris, the streets are vast and the archiecture is beautiful, making it easy to walk aimlessly. On one such day, I ended up at the Louvre, and had lunch at Cafe Marly. Here, there is an incredible view of the museum and the city. A traditional french bistro, some of the things on the menu include steak tartare and entrecôte. The scenery alone is enough to merit a visit.
After lunch, I wandered over to Rue Saint Honore, one of many fashion zones in Paris. Making Saint Honore extra special is Colette, a concept store that has everything from luxury menswear, womenswear, jewelry, accessories, home furnishings and a cafe. Standing right outside the doors of Colette is a pool of paparazzi, waiting to snap a celebrity’s photo, as it is a favorite for most. In addition to Colette, other shops include Lanvin, Manoush, and Hermes. The Hotel Costes is also located on this street, and is a place made famous for its glamourous and exclusive atmosphere. The terrace at the Hotel Costes is an ideal choice for dinner, with a beautiful and intimate setting . In this case however, I do suggest booking a table ahead of time, as it is one of the most popular venues in Paris.
Finally, the end of a perfect day in Paris was spent at the Eiffel Tower, where I enjoyed dinner at Le Jules Verne. Here, the menu was created by one of the most renowned French chefs in the world, Alain Ducasse. Everything about dining at Le Jules Verne is truly memorable. From the lift that takes you some 125 meters up to where the dining room is, to the cuisine and the view, the experience of an evening here is unlike any other. If your travel plans include a trip to Paris within the coming months, I highly suggest planning an evening at Le Jules Verne. While difficult to make a reservation, it is well worth the trouble!
