The Plaza Announces the Return of the Tricycle Garage at the Plaza Boutique
Fans of Eloise and the outdoors rejoice! The Plaza, New York City’s ultimate luxury destination, will reintroduce its very own ‘Tricycle Garage’ just in time for summer. The Garage officially opens July 1, and will offer hotel guests the opportunity to rent tricycles, bicycles and scooters for boys and girls to explore Central Park and spend afternoons outdoors. An extension of The Plaza Boutique, the Tricycle Garage originally debuted at The Plaza Hotel in May 1956, when it housed several children’s’ bicycles for safekeeping. Today, The Plaza Boutique’s Tricycle Garage offers guests of all ages the chance to see Central Park and other landmarks nearby in a whole new way.
In 1956, Hollywood starlet Jayne Mansfield unveiled the original Tricycle Garage with her own daughter, helping to create a rousing experience for families like hers who stayed at The Plaza to explore Central Park and other iconic New York City sights. Originally carved out of a corner of the Fifty-Eighth Street loading dock and adorned in red and white candy stripes, the new Tricycle Garage will debut at The Plaza Boutique and will be available to all hotel guests. Rental fees will range from twenty dollars for an hour and up to forty dollars for a full day.
To celebrate the reintroduction of the Tricycle Garage on July 1, 2011, The Plaza Hotel will offer a Summer Family Package with which families can enjoy luxurious accommodations in a spacious two bedroom Plaza Suite at savings of up to thirty-percent off . With the Summer Family Package guests can enjoy strawberries and s’mores, a one hundred dollar gift card to the Eloise Shop, also applicable to purchases in The Plaza Boutique and one day Radio Flyer tricycle, bicycle or scooter rental from The Eloise Tricycle Garage at The Plaza Boutique. Rentals include complimentary helmet, lock, map and an Eloise bottled water.
