News | May 25, 2011

SoulCycle, the chain of indoor cycling studios that has generated a serious fallowing, including a group of loyal celebrities like Kelly Ripa, Brooke Shields, Tom Cruise, and Katie Holmes, has been purchased by the esteemed Equinox fitness clubs. Since Elizabeth Cutler and Julie Rice, founders of SoulCycle, started the hip fitness brand, they’ve quickly expanded to accommodate the hordes of fans that quickly became devotees.

Equinox plans to add nine SoulCycle spinning studios to the existing six (four in Manhattan, one in the Hamptons, and one in Miami) with the  hope to start with the first of their expansion plan on Memorial Day of next year in East Hampton, with other new locations to follow in Manhattan, its wealthier suburbs, and in Los Angeles.

Additionally, a brand new 2,000-square-foot Upper West Side studio is planned to open in the Harrison, a luxurious Robert A.M. Stern-designed building to replace their current smaller location. Equinox CEO Harvey Spevak comments, “Our strategy is to support the success of SoulCycle and accelerate its growth.”
