Opera Gallery’s New Exhibit: Sas + Colin

News | March 21, 2011

Artists Sas + Colin Christian have recently unveiled their new collection of art, Sas + Colin, at Opera Gallery in New York City.

Known for their references to Japanese anime and taking the exaggerations and perfections of cartoons and turning them into realistic 3D forms, Sas + Colin have created superheroes of an imagined landscape that borders art and design. The pieces that stand out the most are their feminine portraits of femme fatales that embody a rebellious and melancholic spirit and make references to both pin-up girls and those from science fiction.

One of the more interesting pieces is entitled, “Vimana” (pictured below),  a sculpture that depicts a pilot during prayer and is based on ancient Sanskrit texts. This is one of the sculptures that embodies the theme the Sas + Colin exhibit. Constructed out of fiberglass and layered in 22k gold, the sculpture has translucent blue silicone skin surrounded by a frame of rocket ships and bullets.

Sas + Colin will be on display Opera Gallery through April 4, 2011. Opera Gallery is located at 115 Spring St., New York.
