The Best Brunch in San Diego: West Coast Tavern

News | February 21, 2011

Brunch is back in such a big way in San Diego, and with all kinds of restaurants offering up great brunch menus on the weekends, West Coast Tavern is definitely in good company for the newest trendy dining hour.  Located in North Park, West Coast Tavern is already incredibly popular for it’s happy hour and dinners, but brunch at this great spot is something that needs to be seen.

West Coast Tavern is part of history in San Diego, as it’s building is an historic site, built in 1929 with awards for architectural achievements still being handed to them in this decade, and attached to the famous North Park Theater. Dinners are fun here because their small plates options are delicious and amazing for a large group of people to pick, choose, and share. The atmosphere is laid-back, and the feeling you get upon arriving is that once you come here, you’re going to become a regular. With amazing people and such a fun, friendly ambiance permeating through the joint, West Coast Tavern is a place to enjoy amazing food without sacrificing the cool vibe you get from the entire North Park area.

Brunch at West Coast Tavern is really turning heads for two reasons, the first being their amazing and unique Bloody Mary bar, and the second being the delectable cuisine they are serving up to their brunch guests. The Bloody Mary bar is intense, in the very best way. Laid before you, in an almost buffet style, are all the trimmings and add-ins a person could ever desire for a superb Bloody Mary. Asparagus?  Bacon? Various tomato joices? Celery stalks? A plethora of spices and dashes to sprinkle over the top of your masterpiece?  It’s all there, laid out for the taking, to create a perfect Bloody Mary to accompany your perfect brunch entree.

The menu options for brunch are just as impressive as the Bloody Mary bar set-up, and just as varied. First off, there isn’t one thing on the menu you can go wrong with, by way of taste. The bennies are incredible, most especially the beef tenderloin bennie. It’s almost too gorgeous to eat, and tastes every bit as good as it looks. If you’re not feeling the bennie, order up the chicken fried chicken or any of the frittatas, or order them both and share because they are that good. If you’re looking for something sweeter, you absolutely must try the fried peanut butter and jelly sandwich.  It tastes even better than it sounds, and practically melts in your mouth.

Hit up West Coast Tavern anytime, but if you’re looking to do a great brunch, this is the place for you. With a carefully selected and prepared menu, along with incredible service and style, West Coast Tavern is the place to be in North Park for brunch!
