New On the Scene: Hubbard Inn

News | February 18, 2011

Two years in the making, Hubbard Inn is the newest spot to debut on red-hot Hubbard Street. The inspiration? Ernest Hemingway, the great American literary mind from Oak Park, IL.

Upon arrival, guests enter a lobby appointed with floor-to-ceiling Moroccan tiles, Persian rugs, black crystal chandeliers, and factory-style windows and welcomed at a reception desk, which creates the intimate feel of checking into an inn. A mix of antique, vintage and bespoke touches – aged Balinese doors retrofitted as common dining tables, antique church benches, custom-built libraries, fireplaces, vintage leather club seats, reclaimed meatpacking carts repurposed as dining tables, and embossed wallpaper sets the scene for an intimate old world feel.

Executive Chef Bob Zrenner, a Chicago native whose history includes tenures at award-winning kitchens Tru, North Pond and X/O, offers a Continental tavern-style menu composed of European-inspired small plates and flatbreads. Hubbard Inn’s beverages feature an array of quintessential mid-century cocktails, 22 craft beers on draft, an internationally-sourced wine list, as well as a wide variety of small-batch spirits, liqueurs, cordials and homemade mixers.
