New York Fashion Week: Victor de Souza Fall 2011 Runway Show
The bright colors of imperial India were abundantly present in Victor de Souza’s Fall/Winter 2011 runway show. The collection, which debuted yesterday was a dichotomy of hard and soft. Many of the pieces were composed of structured menswear-inspired fabrics tailored to fit with dramatic angles and soft feminine fabrics billowing in the air as the models strutted down the runway. Rich greens and blues inspired by evergreen forests popped against otherwise neutral grays, blacks, and whites. One common theme throughout the entire collection was the inclusion of birds, often appearing as a whimsical detail within many of the looks, silhouetted against a backdrop of silk or as a band at the waist.
The models’ hair and make-up, provided by Cesar Ramirez and Napoleon Perdis, respectively, were designed in a way that let the clothing take center stage. Both somewhat understated, the models donned hair that was simply parted down the center and pulled back, so as not to obstruct from view any of the finer details on each of the pieces, and make-up that was virtually nonexistent with the exception of a dramatic eyebrow.
Victor de Souza was inspired by fashion at a young age, and had already designed a collection by the time he was eighteen. His designs began to gain popularity over the past decade, when Alicia Keys was spotted wearing one of his signature corsets at an NFL kick-off party. Specializing in high-end ready-to-wear clothing, Victor de Souza designs clothes that have strength in structure with a feminine flair and embellishments that add a touch of glamour to the everyday outfit.
