For the Love of Lamb

I love lamb. As a person who generally is not fond of meat, I am surprised by my own admiration for the smell and taste of well cooked lamb.  And yet, many self proclaiming voracious carnivores turn and run from the mere smell of lamb claiming it just doesn’t cut it for their suddenly selective palate.

Be you a lamb lover or hater, chances are you can find a whole new appreciation and perhaps even admiration for the mild meat at the American Lamb Jam Boston.  Presented by the American Lamb Board (who knew?) and BostonChefs.com, the return of the American Lamb Jam takes place at the Charles Hotel in Harvard Square, Cambridge on Sunday, February 20 from 3p to 6p.

Enjoy the spoils when 17 local chefs compete for best in show by creating their own one of a kind lamb dishes paired with beer from 8 breweries and wines from California and Washington State. The winner is treated to a trip to NYC to compete against chefs from Seattle, Washington DC and San Francisco at the Lamb Jamb NYC Cook-Off.

The list of participating chefs, breweries and wineries is impressive. Chefs include Jason Santos of Gargoyles on the Square, Jody Adams of Rialto, Chris Bauers of Sel de la Terre, Jason Bond of Bondir and Rich Garcia of 606 Congress.

Tickets are $50 per person and include tastes of 17 lamb dishes, beer from 8 breweries, and wine from California and Washington state. A portion of the proceeds of the event will go to Loving Spoonfuls, a local non-profit that collects and distributes perishable and un-served food items that would otherwise be thrown out by local grocery stores, restaurants and farmers markets.
