Haute Event: The Miami Symphony Orchestra Premieres Its 21st Season
The seasonal melding of society and song has struck a chord with the recent 2010-2011-season debut of The Miami Symphony Orchestra, MISO, at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County. And though it’s a far cry from the delicious soup you order at your favorite Japanese sushi bar, this MISO is hot and delightful in its own right.
Opening its 21st season on Oct. 21 with Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 7” in A major and closing with Ravel’s “Boléro,” the orchestra, led by music director and conductor Eduardo Maruret, played for a sold-out audience. Renowned trumpeter Arturo Sandoval made a guest appearance with the presentation of Carlos R. Rivera’s “Concierto de Miami for Trumpet and Orchestra.”
The orchestra’s season premiere performance set the tone for the remaining 14 concert programs, which reflect the full range of the classical canon, interwoven with newer works by contemporary composers, including national and world premieres. Music enthusiasts will be intrigued by upcoming concerts, including “Heavenly Voices,” on Nov. 19-21, an artistic alliance with the Master Chorale of South Florida, and “Golden Sounds of Hollywood,” on Dec. 10 and 12, featuring film scores of some of the most famous Hollywood composers.
