Haute Event: “Kimono As Art” Fashion Show
On Thursday, Oct. 21, Art Lexing, Miami’s first and only Asian art-focused series, held a private media event for Kimono As Art, a four day Japanese fashion show and art installation that featured 25 one-of-a-kind Japanese kimonos, some dating back to as early as the 1920s. The preview included a runway show with models that included Miss Haiti 2006 Kiki Barth and was accompanied by music that was written by SoBe Arts director Carson Kievman, performed by Japanese violinist Daisuke Yamamoto. Guest of honor Wendy Lo from Morikami Museum & Japanese Gardens delivered the opening remarks.
Kimono As Art was organized by Lexing Zhang, founder of Art Lexing and Angela Lizotte, an Asian art collector and fashion model. “The idea of showing vintage kimonos in Miami is at once curious and special,” said Zhang. “Art Lexing is uniquely qualified and excited to share this collection.”
Kimono As Art was the first in a series of installations by Art Lexing leading up to Art Basel. Their next Miami event will feature photography and paintings from Chinese artists at the Art Asia fair from Nov. 30 through Dec. 5.
