Art Basel Miami Beach 2026 opens to the public Friday, December 4, through Sunday, December 6, at the Miami Beach Convention Center, with invitation-only VIP preview days on Wednesday, December 2, and Thursday, December 3. Art Basel’s 2026 Miami Beach exhibitor announcement confirms that calendar, the venue at 1901 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, FL 33139, and a show of 272 exhibitors from more than 40 countries and territories. For collectors and gallerists, the aviation question is which South Florida airport still works when the ramps tighten. The fair itself is only part of the week: satellite shows, museum openings, and private dinners pull the same travelers across Miami Beach and the mainland, which is why airport choice and ground time matter as much as the cabin.

Which airport to fly into

Four fields dominate Art Basel private itineraries: Miami-Opa Locka Executive (OPF), Fort Lauderdale Executive (FXE), Miami International (MIA), and Palm Beach International (PBI). Choose by lodging, Customs needs, and how early your operator can hold ramp space. Haute Jets’ live Art Basel Miami Beach 2026 private jet guide expands the FBO checklist.

Miami-Opa Locka Executive (OPF)

OPF is the default for most Beach-bound private flights. Miami-Dade Aviation Department operates it as a reliever to Miami International, lists no landing fees, and publishes about 30 minutes to Miami Beach, 35 minutes to downtown Miami, and 20 minutes to MIA (miami-airport.com). The same page names three FBOs — Atlantic Aviation, Fontainebleau Aviation, and Signature Flight Support — plus U.S. Customs on the airfield (daily 9 a.m.–midnight, with advance notification).

That convenience is why OPF fills first. Atlantic Aviation OPF already publishes an Art Basel advisory: it “anticipates additional ramp compression” for December 3–5 and asks operators to plan through Atlantic Gateway in advance (Atlantic OPF). Hold the aircraft and the FBO early. An Opa-locka FBO walkthrough on Haute Jets covers how those terminals differ on a normal Miami trip; during Art Basel week, availability outweighs lounge preference.

Fort Lauderdale Executive (FXE)

FXE is the City of Fort Lauderdale’s general-aviation airport and the usual overflow when OPF tightens. Official materials list four FBOs: Banyan Air Service, Signature Aviation, Atlantic Aviation, and W Aviation (flyfxe.com). FXE sits in Broward County, north of Miami Beach, and during fair week the drive to the Convention Center can run more than an hour — useful for Fort Lauderdale lodging or late OPF parking, less ideal if every VIP-preview hour matters.

Miami International (MIA)

MIA is the closest major commercial field to the Beach, and Signature Aviation operates a private terminal there (Signature MIA). The trade-off is sharing the airport with peak airline traffic during fair week. Private movements still work — especially some international arrivals — but you sequence around commercial flow. Ask about handling when you request the trip.

Palm Beach International (PBI)

PBI fits weeks that combine Palm Beach with the fair. Atlantic Aviation, Jet Aviation, and Signature Aviation operate FBOs at the field. The Convention Center is roughly two hours south in fair-week traffic; treat PBI as a Palm Beach base with a planned transfer, not as an OPF substitute when the hotel is on Collins Avenue.

Airport comparison (no prices)

Airport Type Why flyers use it Verified constraints
OPF Miami-Dade GA reliever ~30 min to Miami Beach (MDAD); multiple FBOs; on-field Customs; no landing fees Atlantic OPF flags ramp compression Dec 3–5; watch South Florida NOTAMs / TFRs
FXE City of Fort Lauderdale GA Four FBOs; common OPF overflow; strong if lodging is in Broward 1 hr+ drive to the Convention Center in fair-week traffic
MIA Commercial hub + private FBO Signature private terminal; useful for some international arrivals Shares the field with peak airline traffic
PBI Palm Beach commercial + GA FBOs Best when combining Palm Beach and the fair About 2 hrs to Miami Beach in fair-week traffic

Timing tips

Art Basel’s hours mark the crunch. VIP previews fall on December 2–3; public days open at 11 a.m. December 4–6. Collectors who need the preview should be on the ground before those invitation windows.

On the aviation side, the clearest operator-published fair-week signal — without inventing movement counts — is Atlantic Aviation OPF’s December 3–5 ramp-compression advisory, covering preview into the first public day.

  1. Hold the FBO early. Your broker confirms ramp and handling when the trip is booked.
  2. Build ground buffer. Miami-Dade’s ~30-minute OPF-to-Beach figure is a baseline, not event traffic. Leave margin for causeway congestion during fair hours.
  3. Watch NOTAMs. Atlantic OPF notes that presidential TFRs are to be expected in South Florida and can affect the field.
  4. Plan the departure. Public days end Sunday, December 6, at 6 p.m. Sunday evening and Monday morning stack outbound private movements — book the return with the same care as the inbound.
  5. Treat empty legs as opportunistic. Miami positioning sometimes appears as empty-leg inventory on Haute Jets’ Miami empty-leg flights page. Confirm the aircraft, operator, and FBO before reshaping the week around one.

None of that requires invented delay minutes. The verifiable facts are Art Basel’s published hours, Miami-Dade’s published OPF drive times, and Atlantic’s published ramp-compression window. Build the itinerary from those, then add margin.

FAQ

When is Art Basel Miami Beach 2026?

Public days are December 4–6, 2026, 11 a.m.–6 p.m., at the Miami Beach Convention Center. VIP preview days are December 2–3 by invitation, per Art Basel.

What is the best private airport for Art Basel?

Most Beach-bound private flights use OPF. Miami-Dade lists about 30 minutes to Miami Beach, no landing fees, multiple FBOs, and on-field U.S. Customs. FXE is the usual alternative when OPF ramp space is tight.

Why use FXE, MIA, or PBI instead?

FXE offers four FBOs and more room when OPF compresses. MIA has a Signature private terminal but shares a major airline hub. PBI fits Palm Beach–plus-fair itineraries, at the cost of roughly a two-hour drive to the Convention Center; FXE can run more than an hour.

How early should I book?

As early as your hotel and fair schedule allow. Atlantic Aviation OPF already flags ramp compression for December 3–5 — hold aircraft and handling before preview week starts.

Do Haute Jets clients get into Haute Living Art Basel events?

Yes. Haute Jets clients get access to Haute Living events, including cover dinners and Leaders gatherings alongside the fair.

Can I use a Miami empty leg for Art Basel?

Sometimes. Check live inventory, then confirm the operator, aircraft, and FBO before treating it as the plan. Start with Miami empty-leg flights.
