The Hautest New York Restaurants To Discover This Fall

City Guide, News | November 19, 2024
As autumn settles over the city, New Yorkers are seamlessly transitioning from their 9-to-5 routines to exploring the latest haute New York restaurants. The city offers a culinary adventure at every turn, whether it’s savoring fine wines at cozy bars, indulging in brasserie classics, or experiencing cutting-edge omakase. Ahead, we journey uptown and downtown to uncover our favorite new destinations for dining and drinks this season.

BRASS

Following the success of sibling The Tusk Bar, which opened this past winter, its new sister concept, BRASS, has made its coveted debut. Located in the historic Evelyn Hotel, the elevated brasserie-style restaurant balances traditional and contemporary within its menu items with popular dishes like Moules Frites, Ruby Red Prawn Tartare, and the Chicken Roulade. The stunning space pays homage to the grand dining rooms that once operated as the city’s social hubs, with transportive color-soaked architecture, modernist frescos hand-painted by California-based artist Jessalyn Brooks, and an antique piano.

Transport yourself to Italy right in the heart of the West Village with Realmuto Alta Pasticceria Italiana. For the first time in twenty years, led by hospitality extraordinaire Francesco Realmuto, the famed Italian cafe and restaurant has brought its first sit-down outpost in the country to New York City. Get the full and authentic Italian experience with this one-stop shop. The all-day cafe welcomes guests for a morning cappuccino with a delectable pastry by award-winning pastry chef Giuseppe Zito, an afternoon aperitivo, and an intimate, delectable dinner. The interior blends aspects of New York’s Gilded Age with an Italian piazza center; the space, designed by Mariotti Studio, focuses on modern and traditional techniques with an all-marble bar, a piano, vibrant colors, and tables for standing and sitting.

Sushi Mumi

If you’re in the mood for an intimate yet exquisite dining adventure, Sushi Mumi is the new Omakase destination worth checking out. The eight-seat sushi counter on St. Marks Place is helmed by Chef Marco Lin (former chef of Michelin-starred Sushi Ginza). Lin’s artistry shines through a unique 18-course Edomae-style tasting menu meticulously crafted with hyper-seasonal ingredients that change daily. Each course is a testament to Chef Lin’s innovative techniques and commitment to highlighting the natural flavors of beautiful, prized seafood predominantly sourced from Toyosu Market in Japan.

Elvis

From the guys who brought us iconic New York restaurants like The Nines and Le Dive as well as Mister Paradise and Wiggle Room, Elvis is the latest Parisian style cafe and wine bar to step on the scene. The cozy, orange, and red interior makes this space a seasonal staple for fall, with only 30 seats, all of which are custom-woven French rattan bar stools. Guests are welcome to get close over bites and a perfect glass of wine.

Rafael

Rafael is an instant neighborhood favorite, bringing the Mediterranean coast’s taste and spirit to a historic townhouse on the Upper East Side. Helmed by Chef Rafael Hasid, the diverse menu celebrates the Mediterranean and Middle East’s rich culinary heritage with a tapestry of flavors with shareable mezze accompanied by bread baked in-house and plentiful mains showcasing fresh, seasonal ingredients. Highlights from the all-day restaurant include beloved Middle Eastern breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a classic fresh herb frittata, served Middle Eastern style with creamy labneh cheese, earthy za’atar, fiery harissa, a refreshing Israeli chopped salad, and warm pita bread.
