For the 2023/24 Métiers d’art collection, Chanel breathes fresh life into the city of Manchester. A vibrant celebration of tweed infused with a pop spirit, the Chanel étiers d’art collection pays homage to the indelible influence of Manchester’s music culture. Artistic Director Virginie Viard takes inspiration from the dynamic legacy of this iconic British city and the essence of Coco Chanel’s style, where color and emotions are paramount.

Set against the backdrop of Manchester’s creative spirit, the fashion show took place in Thomas Street at dusk, emphasizing the significance of color in this collection. The palette is nothing short of electrifying, with shades of salmon pink, pumpkin, apple green, mustard, sky blue, red, and rust illuminating the horizon, creating a feminine and singular atmosphere that transcends traditional rock aesthetics, embracing the poetry of emotions with a hint of the sixties.

Viard’s approach to this 2023/24 Métiers d’art collection is characterized by utmost simplicity and precision while remaining faithful to CHANEL’s iconic codes. The collection pays homage to Gabrielle Chanel’s art of tailoring, featuring distinctive elements such as chain accents at the bottom of jackets, contrasting inner fabrics, and topstitched panels that offer unparalleled freedom of movement. Even the tops of the skirts harmoniously mirror the inner linings of jackets and coats, presenting a seamless continuity of lines and forms.

The collection embraces the spirit of Great Britain, with wraparound skirts, godet miniskirts, Bermuda shorts, shirts, and coat-dresses, all impeccably tailored in tweed. Shetland and cashmere knitwear adds depth to the collection, while cuts remain sleek and waistlines gracefully low on the hips. Pleats, feathers, and intricate embroidery, complemented by exquisite hats and jeweled buttons crafted by Métiers d’art artisans at le19M, enhance the allure of each ensemble. Quirky details like teapots, vinyl records, and delicate flowers infuse a playful charm into the collection.

CHANEL’s 2023/24 Métiers d’art collection boldly experiments with black Mary-Jane shoes and introduces a diverse range of materials, from jeans and leather to babydoll nighties and strapless dresses, capturing the essence of football, Manchester’s music scene, and the English countryside.
This collection reflects the enduring love affair between CHANEL and Great Britain — with tweed at the heart, of course — a century-long adventure that continues to inspire and captivate fashion aficionados worldwide.
