FENDI aptly chose Rome to present its Couture Fall/Winter 2019-2020 collection, entitled “The Dawn of Romanity.” To begin the presentation, the House opened with a private cocktail event at Colle Palatino, with a whole slew of celebrity attendees like Lisa Bonet/Lilakoi Moon and husband Jason Momoa with their daughter; Zendaya; Winnie Harlow; Susan Sarandon; Catherine Zeta Jones and daughter Carys Zeta Douglas; Zoey Deutch; Kiernan Shipka; Chiara Ferragni and husband Fedez; Caro Daur; Luka Sabbat and many more.

“The Dawn of Romanity” showcased 54 looks, representing Karl Lagerfeld‘s 54 year tenure with FENDI. Their silhouettes were inspired by sketches by Lagerfeld, each specifically chosen by Silvia Venturini Fendi. These sketches informed the “sweeping lines of tailoring, the ample drape of empress dresses, tucked shoulders and a graphic décolleté.” On the runway, pencil skirts, palazzo trousers and bishop-sleeve gowns made a prominent appearance, as did the iconic Baguette bags.
The ancient backdrop and the contemporary nature of the House’s styles married the brand’s heritage with its forward-looking nature. A live performance by Italian composer Caterina Barbieri accompanied the show perfectly. Following the show, guests enjoyed a dinner with Silvia Venturini Fendi and Serge Brunschwig, Chairman and CEO of the Maison. The event ended with a performance by New York R&B duo, Lion Babe.
