Philippe Chow Restaurant Expands To Meatpacking District’s Dream Hotel
When it comes to some of the best, high-end Chinese cuisine in New York City, it is highly likely that Philippe Chow will top the list for both visitors and residents alike. In fact, some of the world’s most well-known celebrities agree, with visitors like Jay-Z, Cardi B, Justin Bieber, Adam Sandler and more frequenting the eatery. So, it comes as no surprise that the Beijing-style restaurant has expanded its brand with the unveiling of a second location in the city that never sleeps, in the renowned Meatpacking District. Owned by Merchants Hospitality Inc.—also the parent company to a slew of recognizable culinary and hospitality destinations, such as the Playboy Club NYC, Sugar East and Watermark NY—the sexy underground space will offer its signature traditional-meets-modern Chinese cuisine for lunch and for dinner.
When it comes to design, no rock was left unturned, especially with Corbin Plays at the helm of the project, who became known for his work at The Ludlow Hotel, The Maritime Hotel and The Bowery Hotel. The recognizable, modern aesthetic of its Uptown counterpart remains intact, while bold, red accents play an important role in the overall aesthetic, reflecting good fortune in Chinese culture. Other noteworthy design elements include a mirrored staircase, gold fixtures, a gold-leafed ceiling, multi-textural artworks, a golden bamboo display case and an eye-catching DJ booth.
The food is, of course, just as high quality and delectable as one would expect from a Philippe Chow restaurant. Guests may enjoy the signature dishes that the restaurant became so well-known for such as Salt & Pepper Lobster; Green Prawns; Peking Duck carved tableside with freshly made pancakes; Sweet & Sour Chicken and Mr. Cheng’s Noodles. Dim sum is also offered, as is a selection of enticing desserts, creative by Chef Terri Dreisbach. Standout desserts include the Baked Alaska with customizable cotton candy and a tableside fire lighting and an 11-layer Swiss meringue buttercream-frosted dark chocolate pound cake. Mouthwatering!
