IMG Hosts A Fashionable Evening To Honor Oscar-Nominated ‘Black Panther’ Costume Designer Ruth E. Carter

Some of the best athletes and top models in the world came out to play on Wednesday night in honor of costume designer Ruth E. Carter.

The IMG-presented event, held in collaboration with Harlem’s Fashion Row, celebrated the work of Carter, who’s best known for designing the looks of top blockbusters such as Black Panther, Malcolm X, Selma, Love & Basketball, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, What’s Love Got To Do With It and Jungle Fever. She is a 2019 Oscar nominee and Critics’ Choice Award winner for Black Panther, and will additionally be honored later this month at the Costume Designers Guild Awards.

The event, which was co-hosted by IMG Models & IMG Fashion Properties President Ivan Bart and Harlem’s Fashion Row CEO & Founder Brandice N. Daniel, showcased the looks from 13 of Carter’s films in the form of a Fashion Week installation at Spring Studios.

In part, the installation was curated by British stylist Ibrahim Kamara, who even designed new costumes inspired by Carter’s characters.

Attendees included athletes Odell Beckham Jr., Victor Cruz and Cam Newton, models Karen Elson, Chanel Iman and Karolina Kurkova, Miss Universe Catriona Gray, Miss USA Sarah Rose Summers, as well as Tess Holliday, Tara Lynn, Billy Porter, Marquita Pring, Shaun Ross, Bozoma Saint John and Lucky Blue Smith, who enjoyed cocktails provided by Courvoisier while they checked out the curated installation of Carter’s work.
