- This year, they’ve added turf into the mix—The Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (G1), to be run on the turf at 1 3/16 miles, will offer a $7 million purse with $3 million awaiting the winner. Then the classic Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) will take place on the dirt for 1 1/8 miles, offering a $9 million purse with a $4 million prize awarded to the winner of the twelve-horse field.
- Entrants for the Pegasus World Cup Invitational (dirt) feature the 2018 Breeder’s Cup Classic (G1) winner, Accelerate, and the 2018 Breeder’s Cup Classic runner-up, Gunneevera—a hometown favorite. Others include the 143rd Preakness Stakes (G2) second place finisher, Bravazo, the reigning Florida Derby (G1) champion, Audible, and the undefeated Kukulkan, Mexico’s Triple Crown winner. The competition is looking steep!
- The turf race will star Japan’s Aerolithe and Ireland’s Magic Wand—competing for the exciting, inaugural race on turf.
- The high stakes don’t stop there—this year, Pegasus will be raising the bar with an extra $1 million bonus to the owner who wins both races—The Pegasus World Cup Invitational and the Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational.
- A new race day wager is the Pegasus Pick 24—allowing fans the chance to bet on the exact finish order for both races with a hefty $5 million prize on the line for the lucky winner.
