President Donald Trump nominated Traina last January, and in the spring the Senate confirmed his appointment. Traina and his wife, Alexis, packed up their two children and moved to Vienna. Now comes our first glimpse into their glamorous new lives in Europe.

Over the weekend, Traina celebrated his 50th birthday with a series of lavish parties attended by San Francisco’s high society. Instagram feeds were inundated with pictures from the over-the-top events. Allison Speer, Alison Pincus, Marissa Mayer, Denise Hale, Dede Wilsey, Kathryn Lasater, Alicia Engstrom, and Ken Fulk were some of the locals who jumped the pond to attend Traina’s festivities. Beloved fashion designer Andrew Gn, who is based in Paris, but has a considerable following in San Francisco, was also in Austria for the soirée.

The Traina’s friends were treated to several parties, including a sit-down dinner with live accordion players, and tours of Vienna’s top attractions like the Palais Liechtenstein as well as a glimpse of the famed Lipizzaner stallions. Many of the guests stayed at the super-luxe Hotel Sacher Vienna, the birthplace of the famed chocolate and apricot cake, the sachertorte.

Alexis Traina was reunited with her family—her sisters, fashion designer Veronica Swanson Beard and photographer Claiborne Swanson Frank, and parents were in Austria for the celebration. It looked like a beautiful time was had by all. Happy birthday to Mr. Ambassador!
