The hotel scene in San Francisco is undergoing a major overhaul. Thanks to newcomers like the Proper and Via, older established hotels like the Galleria Park have to come up with new ways to entice travelers. The easiest way to do this is with a modern makeover. The latest hotel to join the trend? The W San Francisco. Earlier this week, the W announced its “Gold Fever” guest room renovation that’s set to debut in 2019. The theme is inspired by the Gold Rush of the late 1840s and San Francisco’s current era of tech innovation.

Skylab Architecture is behind the design which features white surfaces with gold accents. With gold flake throughout a grey graphic print, the carpet is meant to mimic SF’s skyline. Wallpaper with subtle gold dust and gradient color brings to mind SF’s infamous fog. Marble and tile will be used in the bright and airy bathrooms. The W team collaborated with Solidarity of Unbridled Labour design firm to create custom graphic pillows and throws inspired by San Francisco’s rich heritage.
All 404 guest rooms and nine suites will be completely updated. With the nearby Moscone Center’s expansion underway, the W hopes to attract business travelers with its exciting renovation.
