In two weeks time, over 200,000 revelers will fill the fields of Golden Gate Park for Outside Lands. The 11th annual music festival takes place August 10-12, 2018. The event is much more than a traditional festival—it’s a culinary extravaganza with unique experiences for every walk of life. Want to hear Janet Jackson or Florence and the Machine perform? You can. Prefer to sip cocktails while watching a comedy show? You can do that too. You can also sample beer, wine, and cheese, watch a chef demo, indulge in a decadent multi-course meal, play miniature golf, and shop for artisanal crafts.

But that’s not all—Superfly and Another Planet Entertainment, the groups that put on the festival, have just announced a couple of thrilling new additions to the festival. The first is D.A.V.E or Discussions About Virtually Everything, a new speaker series happening on The Barbary stage. Usually, this area is devoted to comedians, but this year earlier in the day Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom, Bill Nye the Science Guy, Stuff You Should Know’s Josh Clark, and Mickey Hart, the former drummer of the Grateful Dead will take part in several conversations. The panels will be lead by yet to be announced moderators and are meant to encourage a different type of thinking and continue to broaden the depth of the festival’s programming.

“We are always looking for ways to improve the experience and add new facets to the Outside Lands experience. D.A.V.E. evolved out of our discussions of What’s Next?!” Kerry Black of Superfly told Haute Living via email. “The festival is a powerful platform, and we want to inspire some discussion around topics of the day to get people thinking and encourage more reflection and conversation. And have some fun doing it!”

Along with D.A.V.E, the team has also announced Grass Lands, a new curated cannabis experience located South of the Polo Field. The 21+ area will focus on educational elements like “bud tenders” who explain how weed is grown in greenhouses. However, no actual cannabis products will be for sale at the festival. Instead, Grass Lands is a place where people can learn more about how to positively integrate cannabis into their daily lives.

The participants of Gastro Magic—the chef demonstration stage—and Cocktail Magic, the local bars who are setting up shop at the event, have been announced. Chefs Hugh Acheson, Tiffani Faison, Eddie Huang, and Naomi Pomeroy are set to perform culinary antics on stage. Benjamin Cooper, The Beehive, Blackbird, Horsefeather, Rye, and True Laurel will be slinging mixed drinks. With these exciting announcements, Outside Lands 2018 promises to be bigger and better than ever.
