Bill Gates knows this and sat down with CNN Monday, Nov. 13 to discuss his latest philanthropic involvement towards finding the a cure for the Alzheimer disease.

More than 5 million people have Alzheimer’s in the US alone. Costs for care are at 250 billion dollars per year. By 2050 those are numbers are expected to significantly increase. Those affected with the disease will be 16 million Americans. The cost will go up to trillions of dollars for car.

“Scientist have yet to figure out what exactly causes Alzheimer’s or how to stop the disease from destroying the brain. In the United States, it is the only of death in the top 10 without any meaningful treatments,” Gates said.

Gates will be donating $50 million from his personal fortune to support the research of Dementia Discovery Fund, “a collaboration between charity, industry and the government to provide much-needed investment in innovative dementia research.”
