Quick Hits: Take a Glimpse at Plans for the 900 Shops Major Renovation
The 900 North Michigan Shops is already one of the biggest shopping destinations in Chicago, but it’s about to up set the bar even higher for luxury shopping experiences along the Magnificent Mile. According to a statement from Pat Meara, Sr. Vice President of JMB Financial Advisors, which owns the shops, the center is about to undergo phase II of a major renovation designed to “secure [its] standing among world-class shopping centers and reaffirm our commitment to the city of Chicago.”
While the building’s 70 retailers and restaurants, including big-name tenants like Bloomingdale’s and Gucci, will remain largely the same, the rest of the space–including the main grand entry, facades, ceilings, lighting, interior décor, and acoustics–will undergo a complete overhaul.
Perhaps the largest change will happen in the 900 Shops’ food court, which is being redesigned to provide an elevated and customized dining experience to patrons. “With our food and beverage partner, we will craft a program at 900 that blurs the lines between upscale retail, luxe hospitality, creative office space and home interiors,” Stacy Kolios, Sr. Director of Marketing, 900 North Michigan Shops said in a statement. “Our immersive, multi-level dining experience will satisfy all senses, deliver high-touch service in impeccably designed environments, and present menus of flavors that cater to the most sophisticated palettes.”
Also planned as part of the modernization: a video art installation, which will transform the atrium ceilings, plus the addition of shared social and work areas, as well added space to accommodate live performances throughout the year.
The renovation is expected to be done by the 2017 holiday season, but here’s a look at the renderings for the planned outcome in the meantime.
