Los Angeles Ballet (LAB) celebrated its Season 10 Gala last Saturday in a very haute way: with a fashion installation by L.A.-based designer Monique Lhuillier.
The Gala honored Chairman and CEO of the W.M. Keck Foundation Robert Day and iconic performer Ben Vereen with tributes from Ghada Irani and performer Debbie Allen. The evening, held at the Skirball Cultural Center, featured a special selection of the company’s world premiere production of Don Quixote with choreography by LAB Artistic Directors Thordal Christensen and Colleen Neary.
Lhuillier presented her fashion installation during the cocktail hour, celebrating Los Angeles Ballet’s first decade through the placement and movement of dancers and models outfitted in an archive of her designs. Lhuillier chose ten looks from past collections—drawing from twenty years of Monique Lhuillier fashion—to reference ballet performances from each of Los Angeles Ballet’s past seasons.
Proceeds from the event will once again support Los Angeles Ballet’s mission to serve communities throughout Los Angeles County through world-class performance and arts outreach programs.
Other notable guests at the elegant fete included: Debbie Allen; Flesh & Bone’s Sarah Hay; Lawrence Bender; Sherry Lansing and William Friedkin; Nancy Moonves; Vanna White; Brenda Richie; former California Governor Gray Davis and former California First Lady Sharon Davis; Barbara and Nancy Davis; former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan; Michael and Lori Milken; ambassador Ronald and Georgia Spogli; Bob Tuttle and Maria Hummer-Tuttle; John and Joan Hotchkis; Rachel Moore; C. L. Max and Niki C. Nikias; Anthony and Jeanne Pritzker; and Caroline Graham and Prince Weriand Windisch-Graetz.
