When you have Ellen DeGeneres, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Sylvester Stallone and Lenny Kravitz all in one place, you might assume you were at a mixed media awards show, like the Golden Globes. But no, a roster of talent that rivaled that attending the Golden Globes turned out in the name of fashion to sit front row at Saint Laurent‘s first L.A. fashion show.
The couture brand paid homage to the Los Angeles music scene with a rocking show at the Palladium in celebration of Saint Laurent Rive Gauche. It was the second project the Parisian brand’s creative director, Hedi Slimane, had curated in the City of Angels; the first was a contemporary photography show at MOCA in 2011.

As you might have guessed from the aforementioned A-list names, this was the be-all, end-all of fashion shows. Take 71 models and musicians, 93 looks and 13 bands on stage and you’ve got a surefire hit.
Guests who received an artwork invitation by Mitchell Syrop (likened to a golden ticket by many) were welcomed immediately by a scene painted by Lucia Ribisi.

After guests including Miranda Kerr, Beck, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Sam Smith, Zoe Kravitz, Demi Moore, Zac Efron and the Fanning sisters took their seats, they were treated to a show that saw Slimane returning to his roots with a unisex collection of androgynous looks and razor-sharp silhouettes; think silk bow ties, gold or metallic glam boots, tapestry jackets and men’s fedoras and embroideries all done by hand; he also went back to his military officer pieces.
He marked the 50th anniversary of the Rive Gauche by reusing historic Rive Gauche prints, such as the 82 Musical Note print. His “Palladium” collection included jupe-culottes in leather or tweed and couture caftans in fur or embroidered red velvet; the Palladium Saint Laurent captain cap, guitar jackets, a gold mink coat, a mink caftan, a cosmic tux, a tiger couture coat, a feather couture dress and a Marquis de Sade jacket.
After the show, guests stayed for a rocking after-party with a roster of musical talent that included: Father John Misty, Joan Jett, Allah-Las, The Sloths, Cherry Glazerr, Curtis Harding, No Parents, Bleached, Kim and the Created and Mystic Braves.
