Haute 100: Lady Gaga Taps Elton John for Upcoming Album
Lady Gaga fans rejoice. The songstress-turned-actress is working on a new album. But even more exciting, she has the legendary in on the action. In a recent interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1, John confirmed he is indeed working on Gaga’s forthcoming LP.
“I’m writing with Gaga tomorrow,” he said on Tuesday, Jan. 19th. “I’ve heard two songs, which are killer. They’re just great songs. It’s like back to the early stuff of hers – like ‘You and I’ and the Bruce Springsteen one (as I always call it), ‘Bad Romance’.”
This is not the first time the two has collaborated. The two has written together on film and TV projects, including a song on the Gnomeo & Juliet soundtrack and another on a Muppets Thanksgiving special. In addition, in the past the New York native’s Born This Way Foundation, which is committed to supporting the wellness of young people and empowering them to create a kinder and braver world, collaborated with Elton John’s AIDS Foundation. Gaga is also the Godmother to John’s children.
During his interview with Lowe, John also expressed his thoughts about Gaga’s last album Cheek to Cheek. He said, “It was not a good album and I think she would admit that. Then in the midst of that, she did three things, which were kind of amazing. She did the whole tour and album with Tony Bennett, which did amazingly well. She sang the Julie Andrews tribute at the Oscars, which everybody loved. And she was on American Horror Story.”
Cheek to Cheek was released Sept. 19th, 2014. The album won the Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. It sold 131,000 copies in the week ending Sept. 28th, 2014, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It also hit No. 1 on both the Jazz Albums and Traditional Jazz Albums charts as well as the Billboard top 200.
There is no release date as of yet. John’s upcoming album Wonderful Crazy Night is due out Feb. 6.
