Leaving cookies for Santa out on Christmas Eve is an age old tradition that is really pretty smart when you think about it. If you happen to be teetering on the cusp between the Nice and the Naughty lists it can’t hurt to ply St. Nick with a few of his favorite sweets, right? Even if you are solidly on the Naughty list it may change his mind — and if you happen to be on the nice list you will leave them out just for the sheer niceness of the act.

It’s a win-win-win kind of situation.
